The H 28 was designed by L. Francis Herreshoff. He had four characteristics in mind when designing the vessel: 1) it will need to accommodate an engine; 2) maximum room for the cost; 3) a shape that will stay tight in spite of harsh sailing conditions; 4) a draft deep enough for good windward performance but shallow enough for access to shore.

This H 28 was built in 1951. In 1993 a cold molded hull was added. The process included installing new keel bolts and the bottom two feet of the hull were rebuilt to insure a solid hull of mahogany planking in great shape to cold mold over. All of her caulking seems were reefed out and filled with epoxy. Two diagonal layers of 6mm/1/2” mahogany marine plywood were set in West System Epoxy and then overlaid with two layers of fiberglass cloth and epoxy with six coats of waterproof primer applied. An Emron Finish was the final coat resulting in a beautiful hull. The new hull, despite the additional materials, weighs less than before the project as the original hull is not absorbing water during the swelling process.

She is powered by a 28 HP 2003 Volvo diesel with 700 hours.

Since 2013, additions and upgrades include new keel bolts, new pulpits and lifelines, new wiring, new running rigging, and new interior cushions.

Additional equipment includes 25# Bruce and 15# Herreshoff anchors, each with chain and nylon rode; two burner alcohol stove, composting toilet, depth/speed/wind instruments; compass; GPS; 25 gallon Monel fuel tank.

Holiday currently lies in Jamestown, Rhode Island. She is on the market as the motivated seller has moved up to a larger sailboat.

C&C 27 Mark III 1975 sloop in Stamford CT is for sale. Reliable Yanmar diesel and great sails high light this nicely kept racer/cruiser.

The C&C 27 is C&C’s most successful and enduring designs with over 1600 boats built. There may be many reasons for her success. Perhaps it is her outstanding sailing ability, or her comfort and roominess as a cruiser, or the quality of her construction. Or maybe it’s simply that, for so many sailors, she is simply the perfect sized yacht. The Mark III has the stretched hull, 27 ft 10 ½ inches, with a larger cockpit, forward mounted traveler, higher rig, 37 ft, deeper draft, 4ft 6 inches, and greater sail area, 372 sq. ft.

This is a simple clean yacht with accommodations for 5 with a dinette layout; Ideal for single handed sailing, a competitive club racer, and a wonderful weekender. This is a superb starter boat for someone who wants to get their feet wet and wants to go out for an evening sail after a day at work.

She has a new head with the attendant plumbing, new V berth cushions, a battery charger and shore power hook up.

26' Eldredge-McInnis Sloop

Priced to sell!

  • Year: 1934
  • Current Price: US$ 23,000
  • Located in Newcastle, ME
  • Hull Material: Wood
  • Engine/Fuel Type: Single diesel
  • YW# 78590-2886625

Other photos: Freshly varnished spreaders and mast, Bowsprit and foredeck, Cockpit with lazerette open, Engine assessible via cockpit hatch, Cabin vent and side deck, Looking forward to forepeak in main cabin, CQR and cubby to starboard, Starboard sette/berth, Quarter berth aft to port and hanging locker, Portside settee looking forward, Sink, icebox and circuit panel, Sink and handpump, Universal diesel engine, Deep bilge and keel bolts, Bottom caulked ready for paint, Sharp bow, Coming home, Starboard tack off Ram Island, Fisher's Island Sound.

Located in Newcastle, Maine. A handsome, well proportioned sloop designed by Eldredge-McInnis Inc. of Boston, and built by L.I. Snow, Rockland Maine in 1934. Often perceived as being a Herreshoff design, and indeed there are documented and structural influences from Nathanael Herreshoff classics in these yachts. With a sweet sheerline and a slightly elevated bow she's ideal for coastal New England waters.  Easy to handle and the perfect day sailer or coastal cruiser for two or three crew. Miwarawa has been meticulously upgraded, and maintained by present owner since 1973. Substantial rebuild from 1998-2003 at Riverside Boat Yard, Newcastle, Maine. 25 HP Universal diesel (2003). Main and jib sails. Sitka spruce spars. Oak keel, stem, framing, floors and deck beams. Cedar planking fastened with Everdur silicon-bronze screws.

Miwarawa differs with positive outcome in both sailing ability and stability from most if not all 26 Eldredge-McInnis sloops in having a three foot bow sprit (very competitive in her class for Wednesday evening races) and a lead keel (with bronze keel bolts). Also a quarter berth on the port side was added, however original interior joinery (pine with mahogany trim) has been retained. She has fresh paint topsides and has also recently varnished. The owner is especially motivated to see that MIwarawa is sold to someone that will care for as much as he has and offers are encouraged.
