The Graves Constellation sailboats are believed to be the result of a collaborative effort between E. Selman Graves and L. Francis Herreshoff. The lines of the Graves Constellation certainly lend credence to this belief. Only 27 were built, between 1964 and 1971.
Astraea has been sailed in Buzzards Bay for the last few years by her current owner who is looking to move up to a larger sailboat. He has kept up with basic maintenance and the boat is in fundamentally decent condition. A new owner may want to provide a bit of TLC, such as varnishing brightwork.
The sail inventory includes a battened main and furling Genoa on a Harken furler. Reefing and furling the mainsail is made easier with the Lazy Jack system. The boat is powered by a 1990’s vintage Evinrude Yachtwin Outboard providing 9.9 HP. The outboard has a 30” long shaft.
The previous owner recanvased the decks about five years ago. They are dry and in good shape.
The interior accommodates four: two in the v berth and one in each of the settees. There is an enclosed head with port-a-potty.
This is an affordable day sailor or short range cruiser that is ready to be sailed. Astraea also appeals to someone wanting to sail and have projects with which to tinker.
