Full Details
BLACK MAGIC is a compact, full-displacement 32’ cutter designed by renowned Maine naval architect Eliot Spalding and built on the Eastsail 25 hull, professionally finished in 2025 by Maine boatbuilder Paul Rollins. She combines classic aesthetics with modern systems in a highly manageable size – perfect for single-handed coastal cruising, as well as extended off-shore cruising.
Her hull features a clipper bow with hollow entrance and a pronounced sheer, keeping her dry and safe in nearly any sea state. The wineglass stern provides further lift and dryness. Other attributes include: full keel with an all-lead ballast, transom-hung rudder, and counter stern. Hull construction is fiberglass with airex core, with bonded stringers and bulkheads, providing vessel stiffness and strength. She’s designed to move efficiently under power while offering balanced, easy sail handling.
On deck, BLACK MAGIC presents as a proper small ship with wooden bowsprit and boomkin, full bulwarks with bullnosed caprail, and a short cabin trunk with a raised doghouse. Hardware and fittings throughout are above-average and often one-off, selected for durability and performance.
The interior is finished to a highly custom standard, featuring satin-varnished oak and mahogany, white matted tongue and groove overheads, a teak-and-holly sole, and extensive bronze and stainless hardware. Warm, functional, and purpose-built for real use aboard.
Well-equipped with modern Garmin electronics, full sail inventory, Beta 16 marine diesel engine, diesel heater, galley with full sink and cooktop, refrigerator, and enclosed head.

Â
Tristram Coburn has been sailing since the age of seven and has spent a lifetime on the water teaching, racing, and delivering sailboats along the East Coast and throughout the Caribbean. He has taught sailing in both Maine and Connecticut, raced extensively in the Gulf of Maine, Long Island Sound, and the Mid-Atlantic and completed offshore deliveries to and from the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Several years ago he and two lifelong friends purchased a Morgan 382 and, after discovering just how much fun ownership could beâmuch to the dismay of their wivesâlater added a Morgan 384 to the fleet. What began as a lark to help offset boating expenses grew into the popular YouTube channel BoatFools Sailing, which now has more than 23,000 subscribers and reaches over 100,000 viewers a month. With a mission to get more people sailing and keep older sailboats out of landfills, Tristram and his two pals have spent the past three years exploring more than 100 sailboats of all types and conditions and have helped many of these older classics find new homes. Through BoatFools Sailing, he also brings unique exposure to well-presented listings by introducing interesting boats to a large and engaged audience of active sailors. Combined with his 22 years of professional real estate appraisal experience, yacht brokerage is a natural extension of his workâhelping sailors recognize which boats are truly worth saving and setting back out to sea.
